Younger gamers may not remember this, but there was once a game where the whole point was to messily dismember giant animal deities, as another giant animal diety, for dominance of a post-apocalyptic, neo-Stone Age Earth. You could rip the throats out of giant apes as a fire-breathing T-Rex, spit acid in the eyes of said T-Rex as a giant, psychic snake monster, or disembowel the giant snake monster as a raptor the size of the Sears Tower. This was a game that, of course, featured the visceral, dumb fun of cartoonish violence like only the ’90s could deliver.
Its name was Primal Rage, and it was f***ing awesome.
Primal Rage is a favorite among old-style arcade game connoisseurs and 90’s nostalgics alike. There was a sequel planned, but it was canceled and never released. That is, it was never released in arcades. It HAS been released recently, for download, at this website.
Broken just days ago, the sequel, creatively named Primal Rage II, can be played via PC emulators, provided you have a computer that can run it. Hardware and software specifications can be found on the home page of the above website. Some bugginess and troubleshooting may be required, but it’s a small price to pay for world domination.
